(BLOG) The Circular Business Model of multi-trophic aquaculture systems

Article produced by Leitat.

In IMPAQT Project we have looked into the circularity of IMTA from a business perspective. To do so, we have worked in close collaboration with the pilots’ partners to provide a framework for the definition of circular value around IMTA products.

In IMTA, the value creation results from the ability of the production systems to support the processing of nutrient waste that can be used as a production input, moving from monoculture to circular processes and boosting sustainability in the long term. Whenever the IMTA is properly designed and implemented, the circularity of nutrients is guaranteed.

Therefore, the value creation of IMTA should incorporate resources, partners and activities that guarantee the optimal circularity in the IMTA process. In the IMPAQT project we have identified key actions, needs, and stakeholders (see figure below) that will contribute to the creation of IMTA circular business models.

If want to know more about the IMTA Circular Business Model don’t miss Leitat’s poster presentation at the 10th International Conference on Life Cycle Management 2021 (LCM 2021).

The IMPAQT IMTA Circular Busines Model will be presented under the WE.3.A session: Business Models for a Circular Economy on September 8th. The poster will also be available on our website very soon.
